Client profile Abacus
Bookstore, stationery and toys
Abacus is a leading cooperative in the bookstore, toy, and stationery sector, with a presence in Catalonia, the Valencian Community, and the Balearic Islands, as well as a strong online store. Its mission is to distribute quality products while contributing to education and culture through the values of cooperativism. With 47 physical stores managing more than 900,000 product references and a record turnover of €128.4 million in 2023, Abacus continues to expand its presence, as shown by its recent opening in Palma, Mallorca.
Problem
Abacus had a clear goal: to offer its customers a shopping experience that is personalized, agile, and efficient.
In addition to using comerzzia as its point-of-sale solution, Abacus had a very specific need: bringing the bookstore out onto the streets for Sant Jordi.
During this special period, the number of sales points doubles, customer traffic increases significantly, and one need becomes especially clear: making sales faster without losing the human touch of personalized service.
There was also an added challenge: sales did not take place inside the store, but out on the street. This required internet-connected devices capable of operating autonomously to process payments, while also keeping stock and pricing updated in real time. On top of that, the limited space at Sant Jordi stands called for a compact solution that would leave as much room as possible for books. The question was clear: how could such a major challenge be solved efficiently during one of the most important moments of the year for the bookselling sector?
Solution
Thanks to the implementation of FastPOS as a mobile sales solution, Abacus has streamlined the checkout process with mobile terminals (ITOS), significantly improving the shopping experience: anywhere, anytime.
Partners: this project involved Seidor, comerzzia’s Gold Certified Partner, and Comercia Global Payment, integrated as the payment solution.
FastPOS was deployed in just a few days, with great speed and agility, so that everything was ready in time for Sant Jordi.
Results
During the event, mobile terminals were enabled at more than 90 sales points, allowing customers to make purchases quickly and without having to wait in long lines.
“At book signing points, customers do not have to queue twice to pay. We bring the ‘checkout’ to where the customer is,” showing how comerzzia technology enables a faster purchasing process and improves the customer experience.
Thanks to Abacus’s continued growth and the use of comerzzia’s unified commerce ecosystem, integrated by our Gold Partner Seidor, Sant Jordi 2024 reached record figures, exceeding €4 million in sales during the month of April. Compared to the previous year, Abacus achieved 22% higher revenue during the event and 4% growth across the overall campaign.
