Client profile HiperDino
HiperDino is the leading food retail chain in the Canary Islands and the only major brand in the archipelago that is 100% regional. Founded in 1947 and operating under the HiperDino brand since 1985, the company currently has more than 240 stores across five islands and an online sales channel serving seven of them.
With a workforce of more than 9,300 employees, HiperDino is the largest private employer in the Canary Islands and a key player in the region’s economic and social development. In 2023, the company closed the year with revenue exceeding €1.46 billion and a market share of 26.5%, generating 2.5% of the Canary Islands’ GDP on its own.
HiperDino is a benchmark in the Canary food retail sector, with physical stores across the seven Canary Islands and more than 1,000 points of sale, where comerzzia operates at full scale.

In recent years, HiperDino has undertaken a deep technological transformation to evolve toward a unified commerce model, where the physical store acts as the core of the customer experience, natively connected to the online channel, loyalty, and new digital services.
With comerzzia as its store management and point-of-sale platform, the retailer has fully renewed its commercial ecosystem, modernizing more than 1,100 POS terminals, integrating new self-checkout models and in-store mobility, and strengthening an omnichannel vision centered on the customer.
Before this transformation, HiperDino faced several structural challenges:
- Island geography and logistical complexity, requiring highly efficient stock, order, and online purchase preparation management.
- Heterogeneous and weakly integrated systems, making it difficult to build a single customer view across physical stores and eCommerce.
- The need to modernize the point of sale while maintaining operations even in low-connectivity scenarios.
- New consumer habits, especially in tourist areas, where international customers demand faster and more autonomous shopping experiences.
All of this made it essential to have a robust, flexible, and scalable platform capable of supporting business growth and enabling new forms of in-store interaction.
Solution
HiperDino chose comerzzia, with Tier1 as its technology partner, to deploy a unified commerce platform that could meet these challenges.
The implemented solution includes:
- Complete POS modernization: rollout of comerzzia across more than 1,100 POS terminals in record time, ensuring stability, performance, and business continuity even offline.
- Single customer view: integration of physical and online channels, enriching the CRM and enabling a consistent experience regardless of the touchpoint.
- Self Check-Out (SCO): deployment of self-checkout lanes, especially successful in tourist stores, where up to 28% of customers used this system during the first pilot phases. Watch video.
- FastPOS mobile sales: a key solution for sales outside the store, events, locations with outdoor cafés, or scenarios without power supply.
- Advanced omnichannel services: click & collect, pickup lockers, and agreements with delivery platforms such as Glovo.
- Advanced card and virtual money management: wallet cards, gift cards, and specific solutions for groups and social organizations, centrally integrated.
All of this is built on an architecture designed to keep incorporating new channels and experiences, such as conversational commerce or future Scan & Go models.
